PhD Scholarships in Political Studies fot the academic year 2012-2013 at University of Milan, Italy

The discrepancy between institutional and policy designs and their outcomes is a major contemporary political issue at national and international level. Moving from design to implementation involves the emergence of unforeseen and occasionally perverse effects, of state and market failures, of value systems uncertainty and of conflicts at the borders of public and private. The training of highly-skilled professionals who acquire appropriate planning and implementation expertise is one way advanced democracies try to address these issues.

The aims of the doctoral program are:

• to train professionals who can undertake research within academic institutions and research centers as well as provide consultancy;
• to offer the most up-to-date knowledge and methods in the field of political science and political philosophy required to analyze complex institutions and organizational processes and to understand and address the ethical dilemmas involved

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• For Italian students a Laurea Quadriennale or Laurea Magistrale is required. These Italian titles are M.A. equivalents. B.A. equivalents will not constitute minimum requirements for admission.
• Foreign students must hold an academic qualification that has been declared to be equivalent to an Italian Laurea Quadriennale or Laurea Magistrale (i.e. an M.A. equivalent; B.A. degrees do not constitute minimum requirements for admission). In case their degree has not yet been declared equivalent to an Italian Laurea Quadriennale or Laurea Magistrale, candidates may apply to the Faculty committee of the Ph.D. program of interest for a declaration of equivalent value. Applicants who expect to graduate within the date of the first meeting of the Examining Commitees (the meeting is finalized to the evaluation of qualifications) are eligible to apply for admission to the Graduate School. A good command of English is required.
