Basileus III – 283 Scholarships for BA, Master and PhD

Basileus III is an Erasmus Mundus Action 2 project and is funded by the European Commission.  The project consortium consists of 8 EU universities and 12 universities in the Western Balkans. Basileus III provides funding for academic mobility from:
* any Western Balkan institution to the 8 EU partner universities
* the 8 EU partner universities to the 12 Western Balkan partner universities

Eligible Western Balkan countries are: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia), Kosovo (under UNSCR 1244/99), Serbia and Croatia.

The project duration is from 30 November 2010 until 29 November 2014. All mobility must start before 31 December 2011 (except staff). Both student and staff have to finish before the end of the eligibility period.

Target groups: there are three target groups for individual mobility flows and five different types of individual mobility for students and academic staff, you must check your status at the time of the application.
* Target group 1: students and staff registered at a partner university of the consortium
   (make sure you have an eligible nationality)
* Target group 2: nationals from the Western Balkans registered in another university
   (no partner in the consortium) or having obtained a higher education degree from any
    Western Balkan university.
* Target group 3: Nationals of the Western Balkans who are in a particularly vulnerable situation,
   for social and political reasons

Eligibility

Western Balkans

* national of one of the Western Balkan countries countries covered
* have not resided nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc)
   for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of the European countries
* target group I: students need to be registered at one of the Western Balkan HEIs within
   the partnership. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one
   year of studies in their home institution
* target group II: students need either to be registered in a HEI (not included in the partnership)
   in the Western Balkan countries  or to have obtained a university degree or equivalent by an
   institution of the Western Balkan  countries. They will need to justify how this study period abroad
   will benefit them (and their direct socio-economical environment) and include letters of support
   in their individual application
* target group III: students need to be nationals of one of the Western Balkan countries and
   be part of the vulnerable target groups
* sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently
   spoken in the hosting countries

European Students
* national of one of the eligible European countries;
* registered at one of the European HEIs within the partnership;
* Students fulfilling the following conditions are also eligible to apply :
   o Students applying for a masters mobility who have obtained a first higher education
   degree or a recognised equivalent level of learning from a European HEI within the
   partnership during the same academic year coinciding with the start of the project eligibility period
   o Students applying for doctorate mobility who have obtained a second higher education
   degree or a recognised equivalent level of learning from a European HEI within the partnership
   during the same academic year coinciding with the start of the project eligibility period;
   o Students applying for a post-doctorate mobility who have obtained their doctorate in the
   last two years and must have the support of a European HEI within the partnership to
   carry out a post-doctorate mobility. This can be for research, training and attending
   highly specialised courses.
* sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages
   currently spoken in the hosting countries.
* Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year
   of studies at first higher education level

Academic and Administrative Staff
* national of one of the eligible countries
* work in or be associated to an HEI within the partnership
* assignments must be based on partnership agreements between the members of the partnership
* home and host universities and the individual staff must agree on the programme of lectures to
   be delivered by the visiting staff, on the research activities or on the type of training to be followed
* mobility may constitute a post-per-post exchange or a one-way visitor flow to or from a third country

People still in the process of graduating can also apply: they should mention this in their application form and upload the necessary information about previous degree and transcript of records so far.

Scholarschips

Subsistence Allowance
1000 € per month for undergraduate and graduate students (BA and MA)
1500 € per month for doctorate students (PhD)
1800 € per month for post-doctorate students (postdoc)
2500 € per month for staff

Insurance
Grant holders are fully insured during their mobility period for travel, health and accident.

Tuition Fee
Students have a tuition fee waiver for mobilies of 1 academic semester. From 1 academic year onwards, the tuition fees are covered by the project and are paid directly to the host university.

Travel Costs
The project covers one return ticket.
